We had, unfortunately, received inaccurate information about when the performance would conclude, so we actually had to leave before the final numbers. But we saw enough of the performance to not only enjoy the story but also to watch as actors. We noticed that they used their whole bodies to tell the story, they "cheated" to make sure they never had their backs to the audience, they exaggerated their expressions so that the audience could see them, they used the whole space and put their bodies on different levels. We also noticed that when an actor didn't project their voice or enunciate, it was hard to understand what they were saying.
Calabash of the Winds - Our field trip leads nicely into the play we're working on in our Theater class with Mrs. Gilbert. I hope you all have Wednesday, November 8th at 8:30am in your calendar. You won't want to miss our special performance for our families in the Hoover High School auditorium. Please see Mrs. Gilbert's costume handout that came home in this week's Thursday folder. If you have any questions, please email her at [email protected]. If you would like to help make headpieces for our play, please email me and I will put you in touch with the group of parents who are working on this project.
PTA Fundraiser - We have now concluded the PTA fundraiser. Please return order form and payment on Monday.
MKS Fund - The MKS Fund drive continues --- if you have not already done so, please consider a contribution, which supports our Resident Artists and intervention teachers.
Homework Expectations - Please check in with your child nightly to review homework assignments in their planner/agenda. You can also check the Homework page on this website. (I am trying to get each day's assignment posted right after school.) Additionally, there are standard weekly assignments, as detailed in the handout stapled to your child's i-Ready assessment results earlier this year:
- TenMarks - everyone, two lessons per week, plus one jam session
- Typing.com - everyone, work on lessons 15-20 minutes, twice a week
- i-Ready - for those assigned, 45 minutes per week, per subject, each split into two sessions (about 20 minutes each)
i-Ready lessons are designed to target students not yet at grade level, and so those students have this weekly assignment.
Code.org - Your child has their own account on Code.org and is working on Course D, which is designed for third graders. We are working in class when we have the chromebooks, and students are welcome to work at their own pace at home. Approximately once a week I will be assigning 20 minutes on Code.org for homework. Please feel free to sit with your child when they are working, acting as the navigator as you wish. Not sure what a navigator is? Watch this YouTube video to learn all about it.
Do you like jazz music? If you answered yes, you'll want to come to Hoover High School this Sunday, October 15, at 7:00pm, when the Marine Corps Jazz Orchestra will be performing a free concert!
