When I announced the parts last Thursday, kiddos seemed generally happy. Since that time, I'm not seeing a lot of evidence that students are actually learning their parts. There are a few notable exceptions. But this is not homework that your child can do all by themselves. They need YOU to feed them their cue lines. You must read the other parts in their scene (it helps if you change your voice for each character) so your child can fit their lines at the proper spot.
Until all lines are memorized, we can't really do much work on expression, projection, and phrasing. Let alone staging. And choreography for our songs.
My sense is that the kids are excited about our play and their parts, but are not comprehending that this, too, will take work/effort on their part outside of school.
A 1321 Production is always a fun time, but if students do not learn their lines and songs, we are sunk. Please support your child at home each night by practicing the play. "Off the page" is the assignment - as in, they don't need to look at the script anymore.
As I posted a couple of weeks ago, costumes will be out of our closets and dress-up boxes - please do not go out and buy anything. We have time set aside tomorrow to share ideas about costumes and props, so anticipate that your child might come home and ask it a classmate may borrow a certain shirt or prop item from them. This is a group effort.
Open House - I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday at some point between 6:00 and 7:00pm. Students have been busy working on displays of different things they've been learning this year. Please do NOT remove anything on Thursday night. All student work will go home later in the year . . . and we are still adding to our Writing Portfolios.
We've been polishing the first song of our play and will perform it a few times during the evening (hour) with whichever students are in the room at that point. It will be fun for us to perform and fun for our future audience, as well!
Plan to arrive early - at 5:00pm - and you can attend the Korean Cultural Day/Hour in the amphitheater. This is a participatory event and will be lots of fun!
