Math - We've been doing a number of math activities to stretch our thinking about numbers these first weeks of school, but today we cracked open our enVision math books. Topic 1 includes a variety of ways to think about multiplication including:
- repeated addition
- skip counting on a number line
- an array
- equal shares
- repeated subtraction
We've also been watching and talking about a set of videos on Growth Mindset in math put out by Dr. Jo Boaler of Stanford on her YouCubed.org website. (I showed one of these videos - about using fingers in math - at Back-to-School Night.) I've posted links to the videos in the Links page of this website.
i-Ready - We started the fall diagnostic assessments (math and reading) on Tuesday. We are only testing during one time slot per day, always in the morning. The data from these assessments is only useful if students have been able to give it their best effort. Everyone works at their own pace and we will be continuing the assessments next week. Once everyone has completed them, I will send home the family report in the Thursday folder.
