Tonight, students have brought home the book they have chosen to read to their buddy on Thursday. You will note on the Homework page of this website that they are to practice reading the book aloud and with expression, making the story come alive for their buddy. They are to read that book aloud three times tonight, and hopefully to a willing family member on the third time. Feel free to offer any pointers!
Math - Topic 11, which we are currently working on, is a real challenge! As you are, no doubt, noticing in your child's nightly HW pages, every problem is text-heavy and requires the mathematician to determine how to solve the problem, to determine what computations are needed to answer the questions. This is the true application of math. It's why math matters for everyone, no matter their future course of study. It's how we use math in our everyday lives. Please assist your child by encouraging them to read the problem through at least two times, to underline the question being asked, and to determine the label for the answer before even beginning the problem. This will focus the work ahead.
You will notice that tonight I assigned the 2 pages that are intended for classwork (pp 587-588). We started work on p 587 in class today. Refer back to the "teach" page, p 586 for assistance as needed. We are spending two days on this lesson (11-3) and will review work in class, so that is why your child did not tear out that page.
On the days students have taken their book home, there are always a couple of students who do not bring them back the next day. Please help your child to bring all materials to school every day that they are in school. This includes their "just right" reading book from class or Keppel library.
