If you didn't get a chance to do so over the weekend, please check out the Links section Instruments of the Orchestra, about halfway down, just below the Hollywood Bowl link.
Reading Workshop - If you've been keeping track of your child's nightly reading material, you've probably noticed that we are in the middle of a mystery unit. We've stepped into the detective's shoes as we track clues, weigh suspects, and try to solve the mystery before the detective in the book does. This type of reading supports close and inferential reading, which are habits we want all readers to develop. You can support your reader by asking to see the post-its they are writing to keep track of their suspects, clues, predictions, and changing theories. An important goal is for readers to revise their thinking as they uncover new clues and learn more about suspects. This should be evident in their post-its --- we're trying not to race through these books, but read more deeply so we don't miss anything!
Your child has found a mystery series and is sticking with it for a few books before trying another one.
Sleepovers at the Natural History Museum - If a night at the museum sounds like fun to you, perhaps you'll want to check out the program at the Natural History Museum where we had a great field trip in December. Click here for their flyer. Warning: it's a rather pricey experience.
