Field Trip to the Hollywood Bowl - Today's Thursday folder contains the permission slip for our next field trip on Tuesday, January 29, to the Hollywood Bowl. The LA Phil Affiliates, the volunteer group that provides the Music Mobile program, will introduce students to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra. Students will even have the chance to try playing one! This program is offered to third graders because next year, in fourth grade, students will have the option of taking instrumental music classes here at Keppel one day a week, provided by GUSD. We will also have a tour of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra's summer home, the Hollywood Bowl. Volunteer docents will share "the inside scoop" on this iconic venue. Please note that there is no charge for this field trip, thanks to the generosity of the Keppel PTA and the Glendale Assistance League. (It's not too late to join the PTA --- dues are a bargain at $10.00 per person.) Please return the signed permission slip ASAP.
Tying Shoes - I've been noticing lately that some of my third grade friends are unable to tie their own shoelaces. Please know that this is a skill that previous generations mastered in kindergarten and first grade. Please check out How to Tie Your Shoes links on this website. I've moved this section to the top.
Address and Phone Number - While we're talking about "age-appropriate" skills, please know that it is imperative that your third grader has memorized his/her home address and your family emergency number (likely your cell phone). I've had a few students lately who have asked me to call a parent about something, but they are unable to recite their parent's phone number. Yes, I can look it up but, in case of an emergency, your child should know this information.
