- I've put a few (well, maybe more than a few!) Newsela articles onto kids' accounts. This is a great resource for high-interest nonfiction articles written at a third grade level. Through his/her online account, your child can search for a topic they're interested in. I will, periodically over the summer, "assign" articles that I think may interest the class. Pick and choose as your child's interest leads --- and decide for yourself whether or not you want your child to take the quiz at the end of each article (four questions).
- Mrs. Faieta has shared a link to videos (three parts) of our final performance of Vacation on Mars on Wednesday afternoon. You can relive the fun by clicking here.
Hope your summer is off to a great start! Two things:
Hello, all!
I'm not sure how often I'll be posting this summer, but please check back every few days for interesting (to me!) tidbits, if you want to. What got me motivated to post today? Blue Whales! Yes, those same blue whales that we saw from the patio outside the Point Vicente Interpretive Center are the subject of a story on this morning's Take Two radio show, which I listen to on KPCC. If you're interested, you can click on this hyperlink and go to the minutes/seconds indicated. Point Vicente is even mentioned! There's also other interesting information about blue whales. Maybe your family will head out there one day this summer. If you check out the tides, and go at low tide, you can have fun exploring the tidepools at Abalone Cove. Take Two - Blue Whales - 40:45-46:45 It's finally here --- the last day of third grade! We have a fun plan for our End-of-the-Year Party:
Parents are welcome to attend all or part of our party. We also know that some classmates will be attending the Toll promotion at 8:30am, and they will come to school when that ends, about 9:30am. We'll be looking forward to your arrival! Don't forget to bring your backpack to collect a few more things. It's hard to believe that we have only two days left in third grade! The kids, of course, are counting it as one-and-a-half days, and they're not wrong. (11:55am dismissal on Wednesday)
Today we cleared out the heavy stuff going home: Math, volumes one and two, and our social studies and science Interactive Student Notebooks. There are many more math pages than we could ever cover in class, so there are opportunities for practice pages to use over the summer, if you wish. (No, this is NOT an assignment.) Please do NOT return these books to school tomorrow. Part of students' homework tonight is to unload their backpacks. Classroom Library - Tomorrow students will have the option of checking out up to five books for the summer. I am not pushing this on anyone, but you know how much I value reading, and my books will just be sitting here all summer. In the past, I've found students to be responsible with their books. Please assist your child by helping them find a safe spot to store the books once they've finished reading them, and reminding them to return the books to me the first week of school in August. Father's Day is coming up, and students have brought home a little something special in the last few days. They know that Father's Day is June 17th, but they might need Mom to remind them to deliver their gift (wink, wink). Our year-end party on Wednesday will be pretty low key. Your child should have brought home the Room 1321 End-of-Year Party Plans sheet last Thursday. A few kids asked for, and received, another copy today. If you have any questions, please email me. Report cards will come home on Wednesday. Please watch for the report card envelope, which will have a number of additional items inside, including the final i-Ready Parent Report. |
