We started yesterday by identifying the different problems we've been having at morning and lunch recesses. Then we wrote down our concerns, addressing them to Principal Tonoli and Dr Hakopian. Each of us chose one or two problems that are most important to us, and were careful to include a specific example of the problem so that our principals could understand. This morning we received an affirming email from Ms. Tonoli thanking us for our letters and stating that she and Dr. Hakopian are investigating the problems because they agree with us - such behavior cannot continue.
Please ask your child about this situation. Students seem quite invested in working on solutions. We will keep you posted on progress being made.
Math - I am noticing in math books that quite a few students are not tearing out their homework page. This work is not returned to school but is definitely important to complete as it provides practice of the lesson we worked on in class. It is up to parents to monitor this work. Please check the Homework page on this website (and apologies that I did not post HW last night).
Reading - Students are reading nightly in their "just right" book for "a chunk" of time, probably 20-30 minutes. Everyone should be reading one book at a time, from beginning to end, and is taking an AR (Accelerated Reader) quiz in class upon completing the book. The results will give both student and teacher useful information about the reading they are doing. Please engage in "book talk" with your child, showing an interest in the book, and monitor your child sticking with ONE book and finishing it before beginning another. Thanks!
