International Space Station - I woke up this morning to a report of an aborted launch of the Russian Soyuz rocket taking a US astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut to the ISS. Thankfully, they were able to make an emergency landing in Kazakhstan and both are in good condition. I played the news story for the class after lunch today. Many had watched the transit of the ISS just last night, so they were very interested. FYI - the ISS will be visible (barely - maximum height is 23 degrees) tonight, at 6:48 pm and 8:26 pm. But we have two more great viewing opportunities:
- Friday, October 12, at 7:33 pm, WNW to SSE, 4 minutes, max height: 60 degrees
- Saturday, October 13, at 6:41 pm, NW to ESE, 6 minutes, max height: 59 degrees
Theater Performance - Mark Your Calendar! In today's Thursday folder you'll find the invitation to our performance on Wednesday, November 14, 9:45 am in the Hoover HS auditorium. Please plan to attend if at all possible. We've been having weekly theater classes with Mrs. Gilbert (thanks to your donations to MKS) and we'll be performing the poem, Homework Machine, by Shel Silverstein. We are pairing with a second grade - they sing and we act and speak. You won't want to miss it!
Scholastic Book Order - The October Scholastic book offers went home today in the Thursday folder. The deadline for ordering, either online of paper, is next Friday, October 19.
