After school, there will be a Book Sale in the cafeteria. The Assistance League of Glendale, who sponsors Authors and Illustrators Day at Keppel, is making the books available at a 20% discount. Information was sent home last week in the Thursday folder. Please note, check or cash only (no credit cards).
Field Trip to the Natural History Museum - All permission slips are in and we're looking forward to next Tuesday, December 18, when we will visit the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park. Our two "must dos" are:
- the Becoming Los Angeles exhibit where we will learn a bit about the Gabrielino-Tongva American Indians, the first inhabitants of our region
- the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit, which has special interest for us because of our photography minicourse at the beginning of the school year. In fact, our chaperones for this field trip are the same five parents who were our teachers that day!
After our timed entry to the photography exhibit, we should have up to two hours to visit other exhibits in the museum, including the Gabrielino-Tongva. So while we'll be able to see a lot, we won't have time to see everything at the museum on Tuesday.
Students should bring a sack lunch so we can throw everything away when we finish --- no lunchboxes, please. You might want to include a disposable water bottle or other beverage. Students will carry their own lunch in a backpack (the museum does not store lunches). I suggest a small string backpack, not their regular huge school backpack. Students should wear a Keppel t-shirt, if they have one. Don't forget to dress for the weather --- unless it is raining, we will be eating our lunch outside on the grass.
Publishing Party - Mark your calendar for Friday, December 21 at 10:00am - you won't want to miss our personal narrative publishing party. All family members are welcome to join us as we celebrate everyone's hard work with light refreshments.
Holiday Party & Potluck - Our last day of school before the winter break, Friday, December 21, will be a busy day in room 1321! Beginning at 11:00am, we will celebrate the season with a potluck and board games. Students will want to talk with you this weekend about what they can bring. We've been learning about the role that traditions play in the life of our country as well as in our communities and families. Therefore, students are selecting a dish that is special to their family, and hopefully one that they can help prepare. I've created an online sign-up so that you can see what others are bringing. It's definitely fine for more than one person to bring the same dish! You'll find details in today's Thursday folder. Please click on the SignUpGenius link.
