One thing we're working on is taking responsibility for our own bodies. This means remembering to use the toilet at recess and lunch rather than leaving class. Another thing is taking time to eat a snack during morning recess. For some reason, there were many hunger complaints this morning before lunch. When I asked students if they'd eaten a snack, some said that they had a snack but weren't hungry then (9:30am) so they didn't eat it.
i-Ready - Some parents have commented that their child is unable to log onto i-Ready lessons this year. I believe that is because we have not yet completed the diagnostic tests in reading and math. We will be starting them next week when we have the Chromebooks. Your child will know when s/he has finished either the math or reading portion. At that point, the lessons are open for the test portion completed. When the whole class has completed both portions of the diagnostic test, I'll send home the parent report in the Thursday folder. I'll try to keep you updated here on our class webpage.
Math - We've been having fun with some number sense activities this week. Ask your child to tell you about Counting Collections. We used dried beans in class, but you can use anything small that you have a lot of at home: macaroni, Legos, etc.
We also brushed up on our addition facts with the game Addition Top-It. Although we played the game with a special card deck, you can play at home with a regular deck of cards --- make the aces ones, use twos through tens, and discard the face cards. Ask your child to teach you the game, and be sure to write down the equations on a piece of paper for extra practice.
