i-Ready - We started the i-Ready diagnostic tests today --- on the new Chromebooks, which have touch screens! Some students finished either math or reading, but most did not complete a test section today. This is PERFECTLY FINE --- we talked about taking your time and doing your best. The data we get from these tests is much more accurate and useful if students have not rushed. That said, if your child tells you that s/he finished on test today, then lessons in that section (either reading or math) are now unlocked for work at home. I will go into more detail on Thursday night at Back-to-School Night, but i-Ready lessons are not necessarily indicated for every student. I'll have more to share with you once everyone has completed both sections.
Headphones for Chromebooks - I was at Target this weekend and saw that they have Vivitar brand over-the-ear stereo headphones for $5.00, which seems a pretty good price. A few students have already brought their own headphones or earbuds to school, and I encourage this for two reasons:
- hygiene (sharing headphones is not a lot different than sharing hats, and we know not to do that!)
- have a pair when you need one - at present, we have enough Chromebooks for two third grade classes to be working on them at the same time, but we only have one class set of headphones
