Students are copying a much abbreviated form of daily homework assignments in the student planner. The more detailed explanation on this website will help put you in-the-know and assist your child if they forgot what their notes mean (or if they are absent).
Start of the Year Assessments - Returning Glendale USD families will know that the district assesses students using the i-Ready diagnostic tests in reading and math. This assessment is given in August, January, and May. Results are communicated to parents by the district, but I will send home a more detailed report in the Thursday folder once all students have completed (probably this Thursday). Included with those results will be your child's homework formula, if you will, depending on what I think will benefit them most (and not be too much).
District Chromebook Loans - Most students who have requested Chromebooks have received them. The last two will get theirs tomorrow. Please email me if you need the paperwork, and specify which language you prefer (English, Armenian, Spanish, Korean) and I'll send home via backpack mail (wink, wink).
Our Monday started with Keppel's first emergency drill, this one an evacuation drill. We made it to the third level without TOO much talking (our goal is "voice level zero" which is silent) and staff reported BRIEFLY to our assignments. And we were back in the classroom just in time to exit for our morning recess - haha!
PLEASE return your 2 blue emergency cards right away - there are still a few missing. Thank you.
Kiddos were encouraged to "visit in the shade" during both morning and lunch recesses today, and some students took Ms. Tonoli's suggestion and brought out a book to read.
Theatre/Drama - We were excited to have our first class (of ten weekly classes) with Resident Artist in Theatre, Mrs. Gilbert. We reviewed the 3 tools of an actor (body, voice, imagination), went over Mrs. Gilbert's rules to keep us all safe and learning, and then started working on a tableau - a frozen piece of action. The best part? We won't have to wait a whole week for our second class because today was a make-up class from Friday, our regular Theatre class day.
