i-Ready - The Family Reports for your child's i-Ready diagnostic tests (reading and math) are included - folded in half for privacy. The look of the report has been updated, and I think it's actually easier to read. Note that the green field indicates "on third grade level" and the top of the blue bar on the left indicates your child's score. If the blue bar extends into the green field, the score is at third grade level - the further into the green, the higher the score. If the blue bar stops before the green field, the score is below grade level.
If your child's score in either reading or math is below grade level, i-Ready recommends 45 minutes per week spent on online lessons in that area (reading or math). Please keep in mind that this is only one measure of your child's reading and math skills.
Social Studies - This week we've started our first social studies unit: Understanding the Geography of the World. Today we role-played being astronauts blasting off on the space shuttle (see photo above). We "looked out the window" of the shuttle to "see" Earth far below. But then we had trouble with our radio connection to NASA's mission control, so we're having to use maps to get back to our landing site. Along the way, we will hone our map skills. Tonight's homework includes your child reviewing geography terms (see the HW page on this website or the student planner).
Scholastic Book Clubs - September book offers are in the folder. If you'd like to order, please complete online or send paper order form and payment to school no later than next Friday, September 14.
PTA Back-to-School Picnic - Tomorrow, 5:30-7:30 pm - hope you and your family can make it!
PTA Membership - Please see the yellow PTA envelope in the Thursday folder and consider joining. Dues are only $10 per person. Our class goal is at least one membership from each of our 26 families (plus Mrs. B!)
School Forms - If your Thursday folder has a newsprint packet of forms, it's because you have not completed the information online, nor turned in paper forms. Please fill them out and return tomorrow.
School Lunch Applications - Thank you to all who have turned in paper applications or completed one online. Remember, we must have one form for every family. If you choose not to apply to receive free or reduced lunch benefits, you need only fill out student information in Step 1 and parent signature at the bottom. Click here to complete the form online.
