Library/Cybrary - We head to the library/cybrary tomorrow. Students who have returned their signed Know the Rules library responsibility slip will be allowed to choose and check out two books. Many students have already returned this (it was in last week's Thursday folder) but some students were not sure, so they took another copy home today.
Reminder - This Thursday, school starts at 8:00am (no late start) and dismisses at 12:07pm (before lunch) because we have Back-to-School Night in the evening (for adults only). The third, fourth, and fifth grade presentations take place 6:00-6:40pm.
NEW THIS YEAR: Throughout the evening, Mrs. Dow, our librarian, will be in the library/cybrary (down the hall from the office) with the computers available for you to complete student forms online, including the all-important lunch application. It is imperative that every family submits an application, even if you don't think you will qualify, as there is funding that we depend on tied to it. There is even an option to check that you don't want to apply for benefits --- we still need for you to fill out that much of the form. It's one form per family in the district, not one per student or school. (If you've already filled out a paper application, there is no need to complete one online.) Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.
i-Ready, Day Two - We had the Chromebooks AND the headphones again today, so we had about an hour for students to continue working on the i-Ready diagnostic test. Some students have now finished both math and reading, and most students have finished one of the sections. (Students decided for themselves which section they wanted to do first.) We've got one more slot with Chromebooks and headphones after lunch tomorrow, but I doubt that everyone will finish. But that's NOT a problem! We'll be able to find time next week for those who need it to finish the testing.
Please know that this testing is rigorous --- your child is concentrating "really hard on hard stuff" --- the adaptive nature of the test means that when a student gives a correct answer, s/he gets a harder question. A wrong answer leads to an easier question, until the test zeros in on your child's level. You can support your child by congratulating them on trying their best and sticking with it, not giving up.
