- Origami - We started the day with a video about how scientists and NASA are using the ancient art of origami to transport big things into space efficiently. Then we tried our hand at some paper folding. This site has directions for lots of easy and not-so-easy projects. Ask to see the snake, turtle, and polar bear, and maybe your child will let you make a flamingo with a piece of the extra paper s/he brought home.
- Opera - The Opera Guild presented Wade in the Water as an audience participation event. Ask your child about the main character (Harriet) and how the singing style was different from the way we sing in class. Ask about the story, and if s/he remembers any of the songs (some songs were familiar to some students).
- Recorder - Ask your child to play Hot Cross Buns for you! We even got into time signatures, noticing how they resemble fractions, and we reviewed whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes. Ask to see the Recorder Karate packet. It's only part of the packet --- you can see the whole packet here.
- Hoover Jazz Band - Always a hit, the award-winning jazz band from Hoover High School did not disappoint! Ask your child about their favorites songs and favorite instruments.
What a day! Part of your child's homework tonight is to do a little Show & Tell with you about Keppel Arts Day. Here are a few "talking points" to get you going, but please be sure to hear about it from your child's perspective.
