- Teacher will check hallway and quickly bring all students into classroom
- Classroom doors are locked, windows covered, and lights turned off
- Students gather in safe place away from doors and windows --- in room 1321, we will gather on our class meeting rug and remain silent
- Teacher reports attendance using specialized computer program
- We wait for announcement from office over public address system clarifying what type of drill it is, and only then evacuate the building if instructed to do so
I urge you to discuss your family's emergency plans with your child. We, at school, will now remain inside at the beginning of an alarm. But your child must be instructed to leave your house quickly if they hear your smoke or fire alarm go off at your house. I have stressed with students that at home, they must leave the house quickly, not wait for someone to tell them to leave. Sadly, there are children in the U.S. who die every year in house fires, often in the middle of the night. Please make sure that your child knows what to do when they hear an alarm. What they do at home will no longer be the same as what we do at school.
