Apex - Today's lesson was Inspire Others. Wonder Woman Whitney led us in a discussion about ways that we can inspire others to do their best and ways to inspire ourselves to keep going when we're doing something tough. Today's challenge is to try to get as many pledges as we can from outside the state of California.
Our Apex leader is scheduled to come to us each day 1:45-1:55pm. We are all packed up by 1:40pm, ready for our Apex lesson. (The slot before ours, 1:30-1:40pm, is in the classroom across the hall, a 30-second commute.) Unfortunately, they've been running late each day so far. Today was the latest. I apologize that we were so late getting out today, most especially to parents who may have been in the drive-up line on Virginia who needed to circle around again because your child was not there. I've notified Apex that, no matter when they arrive, we will be leaving the classroom no later than 2pm next week.
Mystery Reading Unit - You will have noticed that your child is now reading a mystery. Many students are reading another book as well, perhaps another fiction book, or maybe a nonfiction book, and that's fine. However, it's important that everyone is also reading a chunk nightly in their mystery, mindful of the lessons from reading workshop. There is often a half-sheet describing the focus --- today's sheet is # 3. Your child should have these in their ziplock bookbag. All reading, mystery and otherwise, should be logged by your child on their reading log.
Valentine's Day - As noted on the flyer in yesterday's Thursday folder, while we will not have a Valentine's party, we will be observing the day by exchanging valentines. Please note that, while exchanging valentines is optional, students who do choose to participate should bring them for everyone, not just a few --- the back of the sheet has a class roster. Note also that third graders sign and address their own valentines --- please do not do this for your child. They will enjoy giving and receiving their own valentines. Thanks!
Enjoy your three-day weekend! I'll look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday morning.
