Speaking of our play . . . only a handful of students (about 5) have memorized their lines AND lyrics to the songs. The majority of students stood on stage this morning and looked to me to read their lines so that they can then repeat them. (insert eyeroll here)
This is NOT where we need to be with our play 17 days away. That's calendar days, by the way, not school days.
As I blogged on Tuesday (see below), your child must work at home every day. (If you didn't see Tuesday's blog, please read it now.) Memorizing their actual lines is only the first part. THEN we need to work on proper phrasing and expression to tell our story. Once every actor in a scene has their lines down, the ensemble can polish their delivery, interacting on stage with each other rather than just delivering their lines.
This is VERY doable - I've been directing third graders for over 20 years (yikes!). There was even a first/second grade split in there. They performed "The Weather Show" in 2016 and it was fantastic, if I do say so myself. One of the Wind Sisters from that year stopped by last night to hear us perform our first song (she's at Hoover now). If those 6-, 7-, and 8-year olds can do it, your child can, too!
BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME EFFORT . . . including on the part of families. Please buckle down this weekend. Find some time this weekend to support your kiddo in this endeavor. They all want to do their best on May 20, and that's what you want, too. And so do I. It's just that I don't have a magic wand, so let's all get moving. Thank you!
