Newsela - Newsela is a great website that takes news articles from sources such as the Washington Post, the Associated Press, and the Chicago Tribune. They adapt the article to a variety of reading levels for use in the classroom. Students now have their own accounts which are linked to their GUSD Google account. To access their account, student just need to sign onto their Google account. We've already bookmarked the Newsela login page in the bookmark bar. Just click Sign in with Google --- no username or password needed. I will be assigning some articles and the quiz for homework, but students are welcome to find their own articles to read by searching on their own.
Theater - We've now completed three of our ten theater classes with Mrs. Gilbert. Please support your budding thespian by helping them practice their lines this weekend. In order to be ready for our next class on Tuesday, every student must be off book --- lines memorized. Mark your calendar: we will perform for you, our families, on Wednesday morning, November 8th, in the Hoover High School auditorium.
School Lunch Application - This year, every family must file a school lunch application (one per family, not per child). There is an opt-out box on the form --- you are not required to apply for free or reduced lunch, but you are required to file the form and check the box stating you do not wish to apply. In that case, you must fill out students' names but no financial information. This form can be filled out online, on paper application, or using the new GUSD app. You can click here to go to the online application. Please fill it out now if you have not already done so.
Shoe Tying - Third graders must be able to tie their own shoes! If yours cannot, help is on the way --- please see the three videos I've posted on the Links section of this website, and start practicing.
Uniforms - Great job, everyone! We are a sea of blue, white, and khaki and we're looking marvelous!
