Here are a couple of things you can do to support your child and our entire class in developing a healthy and functional class community:
- Make sure your child uses the toilet before coming to school, and remind them that they should go again during recesses. There is a constant stream of students with a "bathroom emergency" all day long. This is disruptive to their learning and my teaching.
- Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast, eat a snack at morning recess, and eat their whole lunch. I suspect that some of the "stomach ache" visits to the nurse are instead hunger pangs.
- Reinforce "waiting your turn" at home by not allowing your child to interrupt you or others if in the middle of a conversation.
Math - Division, the inverse operation of multiplication, is introduced as "multiple subtraction." This is similar to the way multiplication is introduced as "multiple addition."
- 2+2+2 = 6, therefore 2x3 = 6
- 15 divided by 5 is presented as 15-5 = 10, 10-5 = 5, 5-5 = 0. Because I subtracted 5 3 times, the answer is 3.
We need another day on the lesson we were working on so I've assigned one i-Ready math lesson to everyone tonight. Very few will be working on division, but each student will be working on a concept or skill that they are ready to learn next.
Remember, if your child is assigned i-Ready math and/or reading lessons as part of their weekly homework, it is important that they keep up with 45-50 minutes per subject each week to make progress.
